INSTALL NEW DRAINAGE SYSTEM AT HAWTHORNE A new drainage system has been installed at Hawthorne which suffered sixteen con ¬ secutive days of rain during its 1938 meet ¬ ing This new drainage system will make Hawthorne the fastest drying track in America stated Charles Krutckoff presi ¬ dent of the Chicago Businessmens Racing Association after having inspected the work workSixteen Sixteen consecutive days of rain last year taught us a lesson he said The old drain ¬ age system failed to carry away the un ¬ precedented amount of water and the top dressing of the track washed into the ditch further clogging the drains As each day passed and more rain fell the track re ¬ quired more time to dry out outA A tile drain twenty inches in diameter has been laid in the ditch skirting the inside rail Four feeders drain this ellipitical tile snake and carry the water into the main sewer The capacity of the new system is approximately ten times that of the old drains drainsKrutckoff Krutckoff has passed up his usual sum ¬ mer vacation this year to remain in Chi ¬ cago and prepare Chicagos oldest track for its coming meeting following the session at Washington Park Last year Hawthornes infield outshone that of any other Windy City track and Krutckoff vows that this year it will be even more beautiful
