BUTTERMILK SURPRISES Lightly Weighted Lewin Stable Racer Takes Lake Zurich Purse Dusky Prince Finishes Second at atArlington Arlington Miss Bull Dog Wins Winsthe the Fifth Race ARLINGTON HEIGHTS 111 July 21 The lightlyweighted Buttermilk performing under the Lewin Stable colors registered her first triumph in twelve starts this year when she accounted for the Lake Zurich Purse a mile sprint which served as the feature of todays racing at Arlington Park Mike Caffarella had the mount and he sent her across the line of finish a neck in front as Dusky Prince beat the fastclosing Eagle Pass a half length for the place Fourth in the field of seven was the favorite Don Creole CreoleButtermilk Buttermilk raced close up and in hand for more than half the distance and then set sail next to the rail She raced past the lead ¬ ing Dusky Prince approaching the final furlong and then battled on gamely to out finish him for her surprise triumph Dusky Prince had taken the lead from Some Count approaching the turn and then held sway until the winner came along FINISHES GA3IELY GA3IELYIn In finishing third Eagle Pass closing on the inside finished boldly and had the race been a trifle longer probably would have been the winner He trailed the others for more than half the distance distanceDon Don Creole raced close up to the head of the stretch and then began to tire finally being beaten two lengths for third money Mars Shield which came in for good sup nprt in the mutuels was far back through ¬ out outThe The winner carrying only 100 pounds ran the distance in 138 on a fast track and entrusted with the mount and under his capable handling the Thatcher fouryearold made every post a winning one completing the distance in 138 for a fourlength victory Visigoth the fa ¬ vorite in the field of six finished second with Chance Ray running third thirdVISIGOTH VISIGOTH CLOSE UP UPVisigoth Visigoth was fairly close up from the be ¬ ginning and when called upon on the turn he responded readily He moved into second position but could advance his cause no farther In taking the place he was only a length in front of Chance Ray The latter and Wise Fox raced in closest pursuit of the winner to the stretch turn and Chance Ray held on fairly well the rest of the way Wise Fox refused to extend himself farther and finished far back backPeggy Peggy Aihsworth Townsends Miss Bull Dog making her first start since May 1 was the winner of the six furlongs Kankakee Purse the fifth event on the bill and still another of the better races Standing a stretch drive gamely at the hands of Hay den Dupuy the daughter of Bull Dog wore down the favorite Rifted Clouds and won by a half length as Cross Keys finished third a similar distance away Hustled along early to keep from being shut off Miss Bull Dog was taken in hand after she reached the pacemaking Rifted Clouds Upon reaching the final straightaway Dupuy put her to a drive and the Townsend filly re ¬ sponded well to achieve her surprise vic ¬ tory toryThe The first race was a sprint at seven fur ¬ longs for cheaper platers and it resulted in a victory for E K Murrays Sleepy Howard his second of the meeting Wild West was second and the favorite Respha third Sleepy Howard was never far back of the leaders as Isolene made the pace and re ¬ sponding to pressure as he swung into the stretch he forged to the front just inside the last eighth and continued on to score by a little less than a length Finishing fastest of all however was Wild West which came from a good way back in the last three eighths to land second money a nose before Respha which had held a momentary lead when Isolene gave way in the stretch Val dina like Isolene gave way in the drive after showing good speed for fiveeighths The winner paying a little more than 4 to 1 was ridden by George Martin MartinCREDITABLE CREDITABLE EFFORTS EFFORTSAfter After two creditable efforts in which he tried to get put of the maiden ranks the Millsdale Stables Andy K got home in front at the end of the five and a half fuilongs of the second race only to be disqualified for foul The juvenile son of Jack High car ¬ ried out the lightly regarded Liberty Franc all through the stretch and after question ¬ ing the riders the stewards ordered the formers number taken down Liberty Franc is owned by C Andrade III and was ridden by Glen Smith J E Oros was astride Andy K which finished in front by a half length lengthUnder Under the revised placings St Croix re ¬ ceived second money Try Flight third and Ginger Ted fourth fourthAndy Andy K made all the pace and Liberty Franc was always in closest pursuit It was shortly after reaching the stretch that the Millsdale colt began to bear out in spite of the efforts of the rider The favorite Count Happy could not seriously threaten at any stage DENEMARK VICTORY VICTORYThe The colors of Mrs Emil Denemark were seen in front in the six furlongs third race when Prairie Dog an outsider in the betting turned back eight other useful sprinters The son of Bull Dog took the lead from the pacemaking Double B a furlong out and then when clear went over sharply to the rail but did not actually interfere with his rival and there was no claim of foul Double B weakened after losing the lead and just lasted to save the place a head before Win ¬ ning Chance The winner ridden by Alfred Robertson scored by two lengths and paid 4060 for 2 Dixieland the favorite was a sharp factor for about a half mile but then faltered and wound up well back of the lead ¬ ers and thoroughly beaten beatenJockey Jockey Clayton
