DELAWARE PREPARES FOR BANNER SEASON SEASONTop Top Horses From AH Divisions Nominated for Fourteen Stakes Meeting to Open on May 30 30WILMINGTON WILMINGTON Del May 3 Delaware Park has received the most flattering entry list jn its history for the race meeting which will begin on May 30 Memorial Day and run until July 5 An analysis made by gen ¬ eral manager Edward Burke and racing sec ¬ retary Edward Brennan shows that top horses in all divisions have been nominated by men and women well known in the sport from coast to coast The fact that the sup ¬ port as evidenced by the entries is national has brought new satisfaction to the execu ¬ tive committee which is made up of J Simp ¬ son Dean president of the Delaware Steeple ¬ chase and Race Association and Donald P Ross and William duPont Jr JrThe The roster of keen thoroughbreds named for one or more of Delawares fourteen stakes is beyond anything the track has known Included are Our Boots Whirlaway Dispose Robert Morris The Rhymer King Cole Monday Lunch and Mettlesome among the threeyearolds Fillies of that age in ¬ clude such as Dorimar Level Best Nasca Fleetborough Fairy Chant Tangled Strange Device Misty Isle and Frontier Model ModelSince Since handicaps form an important part of the Delaware program racegoers to the course near Wilmington will be glad to know there is likely to be competition between such stars of the older division as Fenelon Ypur Chance Hash Tatterdemalion Honey Cloud War Beauty Hypnotist II Impound Nedayr Haltal Shot Put Sun Lover Andy K Gallahadion Devils Crag Corydon Masked General and Dit since all of these have been nominated for one or more of the Delaware Park stakes stakesRENAISSANCE RENAISSANCE IN RACING RACINGThe The policy at Delaware Park which is the only track outside of New York enjoying the jurisdiction of The Jockey Club is to fit its meeting close behind that in the Metropoli j i tan area and dovetailing with the sport in Maryland It is accepted generally that the renaissance in racing is continuing paced by the upward surge in New York and 1 Delaware greets the new responsibilities which the wider public support entail I Facilities to the public will be increased and accommodations to horsemen continued In this regard general manager Burke sug gests that those who formerly made last minute reservations for hotel and apartment space in and about Wilmington consider the i matter more promptly this year The con ¬ centration of defense industry in and about Wilmington has brought heavier advance reservations to the hotels than ever before It is urged that horsemen act now in this respect respectConsideration Consideration of all factors in the situa tion indicates that Delaware Park will have a banner year Held to be of prime impor ¬ tance is the fact that leaders in the sport again will be in action at the track Last year establishments racing at Wilmington included those of Mrs Payne Whitney Joseph E and George D Widener the Milky Way MilkyWay Farm of Mrs Ethel Mars the Beiair Stud and Wheatley Stable Mr and Mrs MrsAnthony Anthony Pelleteri the Glen Riddle Farm Thomas Hitchcock and such local establish ments as the Brandywine Stable Christiana ChristianaStable Stable and Foxcatcher Farm LEADING OWNERS This season Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilf leader at both Pimlico and Belmont Park will be added to the number and so will E R Bradley Mrs Dodge Slpanes Brook meade Stable and Valdina Farm Horsemen and owners from California Texas and the Middle West have rallied to Delaware in addition to the backbone of Establishments from the East Easti i In addition the rank and file of horsemen who have raced with Messrs Burke and Brennan for years again will be accorded every consideration Well filled races always are a certainty at Delawaiv Park this being j due in a large part to the preparation v ork of Ty Shea and Gil Haus two of Mr Bren nans assistants They know that once more Delaware Park will have full barns Last year not only were they filled but the over flow had to be taken care of at the Fox catcher club where several hundied stalls had to be pressed into service to take care of horsemen shipping to the track trackThere There will be no racing at Delaware Park on two Mondays during the meeting this being in line with the custom of other years
