FAIRMOUNT PARK HORSE COLONY GROWING DAILY OVER 500 HEAD ALREADY ON HAND FOR INAUGURAL INAUGURALImproved Improved Economic Conditions in Area Indicate Success for Session Opening Memorial Day DayCOLLINSVILLE COLLINSVILLE 111 May 21 Final prep ¬ arations for the twentyseven days of racing to be offered by the Fairmount Park Jockey Club beginning Memorial Day are being worked out by general manager D C Bur ¬ nett and one of the best sessions in years is believed in the offing Many new stables jockeys and improved conditions in this lo ¬ cality along with numerous defense projects in St Louis will no doubt help swell the attendance at the Madison County track trackWhile While Burnett is preparing to handle one of the largest crowds in the history of the local track racing secretary R A Leigh Jr is lining up good programs for the opening day which will feature the Memorial Day Handicap a sixfurlong event for threeyear olds and upward The following day Leigh wiH card another handicap at one mile in which the best route performers on the grounds will match strides The opening day feature and the halfholiday handicap carries a purse value of 1200 1200As As is the custom at Fairmount Park many horsemen who have a preference to racing at the local plant will be turned down for stall space as every available stall has been allotted Already there are more than 300 horses on the grounds and 200 others with accommodations at adjacent Creek Side Farm owned by Harry Murdock In addi ¬ tion to the stabling at Creek Side Farm many trainers have rented barns outside the plant In all there should be close to 1000 horses ready for racing when Leigh opens his office to take entries for the open ¬ ing days races racesLATE LATE ARRIVALS ARRIVALSSome Some of the latest arrivals to find quarters at Fairmount are the stables of Lee Erb M B Goff and Sons C N Finch P C James George Schatz J F ONeil F E Waldron Charles Howe Bert Hodson Mrs Gola Whitlow George S Howell I J Kil lion and the locally owned Myrtle Maroon Stable StableTommy Tommy Murray was in charge of the Erb and Goff stable and for the account of Erb Kansas City businessman Murray unloaded Frank Ormont the most consistent horse here last fall winning six straight races Manakoora Liville and the threeyearold Jetterson a chestnut daughter of Vito Lady Herbert Jetterson failed to race as a juvenile and will make her racing debut during the local spring session The Goff horses which came in the same shipment as the Erb representatives from Churchill Downs includes Dusty Wind Epizar Elder Jock Oddesa Romeo Blanock and the two i I yearold Flying Stefan a brown gelding by Flying Heels Intrancing IntrancingThe The Finch equine group which also came from Churchill Downs was made up of Bur man Bertawest Turntable and Strollying By Five others racing at Beulah Park will be sent here after the close of that meeting meetingIn In the shipment unloaded by James which was sent here from Sportsmans Park were Hes Wonderful Cambau Join Issue Re ¬ joinder Replication Elegant Sammy and La Primera The latter is the property of H K Barron who will condition the horses of the Illinois breeder and owner ownerRoyal Royal Broom was the only horse Howe brought from Douglas Park in Louisville and two others are to follow tomorrow The veteran Ripplealong and the twoyearold Advising Anna made up the J F ONeil group with six others scheduled to arrive here next week from Beulah Park Ripple along and Advising Anna were sent here after campaigning at Churchill Downs DownsLAZARUS LAZARUS AND MISS BALKO IN GROUP GROUPHeading Heading the Waldron shipment were the handicap performers Lazarus and Miss Balko Both were prominent in the handi ¬ cap division here last fall with Lazarus winning one feature at six furlongs and an ¬ other at one mile Miss Balko was raced a little too high and she accounted for several events when dropped down in the claiming class The other representatives unloaded by Waldron from Chicago were French Bread and Waringa WaringaSchatz Schatz brought Scottish Mary and Lady Hav from the farm at West Union Iowa both having wintered there since the close of the fall meeting here Actdine another to make the trip with the Schatz pair and also trained by Schatz will sport the silks of O H Nearing of West Union Hodsons Jone representative Bobbie Easter unloaded from Churchill Downs while Francis Dillon brought from Sportsmans Park Mrs Gola Whitlows consistent Manhunt and Linkville Both horses earned purses at the recent Cicero track meeting for the Benton HI sportswoman sportswomanThe The largest shipment to reach Fairmount Park today was the one in charge of George S Howell one of the leading owners hero during the past two meetings The Louis ¬ ville
