SMALL FIELDS IN AQUEDUCTS TWO ATTRACTIONS CARTER ATTRACTS FIVE AND ASTORIA ONE MORE MOREKing King Cole Omission and Harvard Square Match Strides in Former Banjo Eyes Tops Filly Stake StakeNEW NEW YORK IV Y June 13 King Cole breezing winner of the Shevlin earlier in the week heads a light but very fast field of just five named for the seven furlongs Car ¬ ter Handicap which is the stellar offering on a doublestake bill of thoroughbred sport at the Queens County Jockey Clubs remod ¬ eled Aqueduct course tomorrow afternoon Though he must pack top weight of 123 pounds in this 7500 added sprint fixture Ogden Phipps colt may be the public choice in a more or less open betting race to turn the stables on Victor Emanuels Omission and Arnold Hangers Harvard Square Omission led him to the end of the Swift Stakes at Belmonts recent meeting while Harvard Square wnipped him in the Rose ben at the same park parkThe The weaklegged but speedy Golden Voy ¬ age and C V Whitneys hardhitting home ¬ bred Parasang round out the field in the Barter BarterThe The other of the stakes offerings on the first Saturday of the meeting is the As ¬ toria which is enriched with 5000 by the association and has attracted half a dozen filly twoyearolds for a dash of five and a half furlongs The Astoria last June was marked by a nip and tuck drive between Tangled and Key Ring the pair finishing in a dead heat and Key Ring being disqualified for a foul foulBANJO BANJO EYES LOGICAL CHOICE CHOICESpanish Spanish Moss a stablemate of Tangled in the Greentree barn is a conspicuous ab ¬ sentee from the Astoria field but it has drawn what appears a logical oddson chance in Jock Whitneys Banjo Eyes who turned in a fine race to register in her last at Belmont The sextet is rounded out by H L Strous Small Time Brookmeade Sta ¬ bles Smiles Marshall Fields Mersa Matruh Wheatley Stables Great Hurry and Mrs Anthony Pelleteris Flying Indian The last named is an improving sort though she was running for 2500 when winning here earlier in the week weekRain Rain visited this area as the weekend card was being closed to entries However Eddie Kilroe and his associates in directing the operations of the Queens County Jockey Club are optimistic and hope for clearing weather and a big Saturday turnout Though the fields in the two stakes are rather light each is expected to produce a first rate con ¬ test and the supporting events are headed by the Trial by Jury Handicap a class C event of seven furlongs with 2000 added that drew eight promised starters including the familiar Gallahadion Nedayr and Volitant VolitantPROBABLE PROBABLE NET TO WINNERS WINNERSIf If the five named for the Carter all go to the post that stake will yield the winner a next prize of 6525 while the Astoria will net its heroine 5675 if all six start This will be the fortyfirst edition of the Carter while the Astoria will be having its thirty fifth running runningSome Some capable maids have captured vari ¬ ous of the Astoria renewals but it is doubt ¬ ful if any were more capable than is the 1940 winner Tangled at the present time That filly won the Top Flight Handicap at Belmont Park and supplemented the score last Thursday with a record smashing tri ¬ umph over Level Best and Misty Isle in the Delaware Oaks OaksThree Three of the five in this afternoons Car ¬ ter are threeyearolds while the most ac ¬ complished of the group is King Cole who has appeared in nothing but stakes eight in number this season arid has not been worse than third at the end of any of these in ¬ cluding victories in the Paumonok Withers and Shevlin and a second to Whirlaway in the Preakness He must pick up a penalty of three pounds in the Carter to carry 123 because of his Shevlin victory Rigged that way the Pharamond II colt gives each of the others actual weight to say nothing of the scale scaleKing King Cole concedes Golden Voyage a sin ¬ gle pound three pounds to Harvard Square who packs 120 six to Omission under 117 and nine to Parasang with 114 Its no light task and each of the field will draw some support supportFOURPOUND FOURPOUND CONCESSION CONCESSIONIn In the Swift Omission had a fourpound pull over King Cole and beat him This after ¬ noon he has a sixpound pull because of the penalty the other colt picks up In the Rose ben Harvard Square has a sevenpound weight advantage over King Colt His ad ¬ vantage this afternoon is one of three pounds Since the Roseben Harvard Square came back to lead Parasang to the finish of a Bel ¬ mont sprint sprintGolden Golden Voyage who won his only start thus far this year at Belmont has worked better than any of the others and despite his 122 pounds and shaky underpinning will have a following as he always does in Lone Island sprints sprintsBanjo Banjo Eyes so the splitsecond fraternity declares is distinctly the speed of the As ¬ toria field Shes an improving sort and will have Eddie Arcaro booting Flying Indian is moving out of the plater class having shown a good race in her recent Aqueduct score Small Time is a diminutive filly who raced well in stakes at Miami in the winter She has not done quite so well since moving up the line lineSmiles Smiles worked well for the Astoria be ¬ tween races at this point vanning over from Belmont headquarters She won her last at the Westchester Racing Association meet ¬ ing and was a couple of seconds ahead of her graduation She may be a better than average prospect Mersa Matruh and Great
