HAPPY DASH FIRST IN RACE FOR ILLINOISBRED HORSES HORSESSheriff Sheriff Eugene and Guess What Trail Winner at Fairmount Park ParkCOLLINSVILLE COLLINSVILLE 111 June 13 A race for horses foaled in Illinois featured the allclaiming card at Fairmount Park this afternoon in which nine thoroughbreds rep ¬ resenting the stallions Delectable II Reju ¬ venation Sun Hatter Price Maker Tonto Rock and Sherab matched strides in the opening race at six furlongs It was the first race of its kind to be filled at the local track and racing secretary R A Leigh Jr hopes to put on several other such races dur ¬ ing the meeting should they be requested by horsemen horsemenThe The race which was for threeyearolds and upward was taken in easy fashion by F J Moores fiveyearold Happy Dash with F C Barrows Sheriff Eugene second and third going to Sam Pershalls Miss Lampley Having the services of Bobby Montgomery the daughter of Sun Hatter had little diffi ¬ culty taking care of Sheriff Eugene after the opening furlong with the exception of com ¬ ing into the stretch when Sheriff Eugene who forced the pace throughout came to within a length of the winner but Mont ¬ gomery was taking his mount back at the time and in the final run home the Moore representative was drawing away without pressure and scored by more than two lengths lengthsThe The tiring Sheriff Eugene got the place by a length from Miss Lampley Guess What the favorite was messed about shortly after the start and although she made up ground rapidly thereafter failed to threaten the leaders and could do no better than finish fourth fourthThe The weather was threatening for the pro ¬ gram while tHe track which was termed heavy yesterday improved splendidly today and it was good for the first race
