THOMAS H McCREERY TRAINER OF ROBERT MORRIS BEGAN PROFESSION IN 1903 1903Owned Owned and Conditioned Both Flat and Chase Racers Prior to 1917 1917NEW NEW YORK N Y June 20 Thomas H McCreery trainer of Robert Morris which finished second to Whirlaway in the Bel mont Stakes and who is to face the Calumet champion in the Dwyer Stakes tomorrow has a first class racing background His father James H McCreery was the first trainer ever employed by Gen Stephen San ford grandfather of the present bearer of that name and for the Amsterdam sports ¬ man ha trained Post Guard Chimney Sweep and other horses this was sixty years ago Prior to that he had trained the horses of D D Withers and later for Pierre Lorillard he trained King Eric Burlington Rispah and others that raced in the all black jacket jacketThomas Thomas H McCreery began training for George F Johnson and F Ambrose Clark in 1903 His first winner was Bonnibert He also trained steeplechase horses for these two sportsmen and the first winner he trained through the field for them was the speedy but erratic Bonfire BonfireF F Ambrose Clark withdrew from the con ¬ federation and the horses later ran in the name of George F and Fred Johnson son of the former For the Messrs Johnson Tom McCreery trained with marked success Aeronaut Entree and Lady Winifred WinifredRODE RODE IN CHASE EVENTS EVENTSFor For a number of years prior to the out ¬ break of the war in 1917 Tom McCreery trained horses he owned himself both on the flat and through the field At times he owned trained and rode the jumper Race brook brookWith With the outbreak of the Avar Tom Mc ¬ Creery joined the army as a lieutenant and was mustered out in 1919 a major He then went back to his old profession and trained for the late Charles Fleischmann The best horses he had for him were Thorndale which he purchased at the dispersal sale of Ben ¬ jamin Block Away ShaunaGlannagh and other jumpers On the death of Mr Fleisch ¬ mann Tom McCreary trained for the Se wickley Stable J Fred and Ebon Byers and for Richard Howe HoweMr Mr J Fred Byers returned to racing a year ago During his absence Tom Mc ¬ Creery trained the very useful horse Thor son for Buckley M Byers son of J F Byers Tom McCreery is a good judge of a year ¬ ling He purchased Robert Morris for Mr Byers at Saratoga in the Bramble Farm con signnient for 3200 and he has proved a rare bargain bargainMcCreary McCreary is firm in his opinion of Robert Morris a son of Jacopo out of the Archaic mare Arch Queen and is confident his charge will give a first class account of him ¬ self on Saturday His performances in the Excelsior and Peter Pan Handicaps which he won in impressive style lend credence to the belief McCreerys faith in the colt he is training for Mr Byers is well founded
