TEX HYGRO QUALIFIES FOR GAZELLE STAKES STAKESMrs Mrs L Lazares Filly Defeats Maemante by Length Margin in Lady Capulet Purse at Aqueduct AqueductNEW NEW YORK N Y June 20 Tex Hygro may have earned a place in the Gazelle Stakes field here next Wednesday as she beat a speedy band of five other threeyear old fililes in the mile and a sixteenth of the Lady Capulet Purse which was the principal offering on todays matinee at Aqueduct The Texasbred daughter of Hygro flying the fuschia and pink of Mrs Louis Lazare was driven hard by Paul Ryan to dispose of the favored Maemante in a long stretch batt and whip her by just a length and a quarter Cleaveland Putnams Moja was third nearly two lengths away and well before Laatokka LaatokkaTwo Two Gazelle eligibles followed Tex Hygro to the finish Moja and Battle Front The winner had up 108 pounds and went over the mile and a sixteenth in 146 which marked a mediocre performance on a fast racing strip Earlier in the afternoon W H LaBoyteauxs Imperatrice another Ga ¬ zelle hopeful performed well when finishing second to her stablemate Springwood in a sprint run in 112 Tex Hygro Had won earlier in the meeting and paid her followers 1030 for the usual deuce 10000 ATTEND ATTENDA A crowd of 10000 was on hand in warm summer weather for the offday program Favorite players were faring much better than on the previous afternoon when they drew a blank However Maemante dis ¬ appointed many in the Lady Capulet and Dr Whinny failed at oddson in a high grade claimer claimerTex Tex Hygro was taken in hand early by Ryan in the Lady Capulet while Blue Castle stepped to the front under Eads leaving the gate from the rail station Going into the first turn Maemante and Battle Star were lapped on the pacemaker and Laa ¬ tokka ran up behind them and stumbled almost McCrearyTex going down with McCreary Tex Hygro never was more than a couple of lengths off the pace as Blue Castle yielded the lead to Battle Star entering the back stretch with Maemante pegging the Wheatley Stable fillys pace closely down that lane Swinging around the last turn Maemante disposed of Battle Star but Ryan moved with her on Tex Hygro and in a long drive beat her out Moja came with her usual run the last part of it to be third after trailing to the stretch
