RacingTax Hike Approved By Massachusetts Committee CommitteeBOSTON BOSTON Mass May 19 The Massa ¬ chusetts House Ways and Means Commit ¬ tee approved a hike in state taxes on horse and dog racing yesterday in a session at the state house The taxes would be in ¬ creased an estimated 846000 a year ac ¬ cording to the solons who reported to the lower branch branchThe The same committee recommended the companion bill before the House which would give the state the entire breakage be studied and reported on in 1949 At present the tracks and state split the breakage 5050 5050The The new taxandbreakage bills were in ¬ troduced to the House by Representative Logan Dickie Republican of Reading on March 31 and the House accepted them by a 126 to 79 roll call The proposals were identical with measures approved by the Massachusetts House in 1946 only to be killed in the Senate on prorogation night nightThe The proposed taxes on horse racing in Massachusetts would be 3 lk per cent on the first 600000 bet on any one day 5 per cent on the next 300000 and 5 per cent on all over 900000
