Black Knave Gives Six Foes Weight in Beacon BeaconMisleader7 Misleader7 New York Invader Goes in Feature at Suffolk SuffolkSUFFOLK SUFFOLK DOWNS East Boston Mass May 19 The breaking of the clouds which have hovered over here for nine days has returned the racing picture at Suffolk Downs to sunshine and normalcy The fea ¬ ture attraction for tomorrows program named the Beacon a mile and onesix ¬ teenth allowance affair has drawn seven seasoned thoroughbreds With one excep ¬ tion all of the candidates have raced over the local oval this spring and tomorrows test should provide a thrilling race The consistent Black Knave from the barn of McCarthy Gavegnano picks up topweight of 118 pounds under the condi ¬ tion of the Beacon which is for three yearolds and upward that have not won two races since last October The Stick To Hazel Spears colt finished second to AgrarianU in the Damon Runyon Me ¬ morial Handicap on opening day came back nine days later to again earn the run ¬ nerup honors this time behind Desert Stables Tim B He continued his good form while picking up third money in the Governors Handicap on May 1 His fourth I and most recent effort was a triumph over Tarpan last Friday at six furlongs Al ¬ though he is adding seven pounds for this test and is going a route Black Knave has displayed the stamina to go on under a burden burdenFour Four of the candidates in tomorrows feature get a sevenpound weight conces ¬ sion from Black Knave Circle K Farms Misleader Oran Lodge Stables Apropiado the Frances Stables BelltheCat and F Randos Camps First all carry 111 pounds Of the quartet Misleader may prove the most troublesome to the topweight topweightThe The Wheatley Stable castoff purchased in New York by trainer A Dupaquier from Sunny Jim Fitzsimmons for an undis ¬ closed amount arrived here Sunday fol ¬ lowing a campaign at Jamaica The five yearold son of Snark has appeared six times since the opening of the 1948 season on the Metropolitan circuit and earned second money once and was third on an ¬ other occasion The second was behind H LaMontagnes Conniver in an overnight al ¬ lowance race In most of his starts at Ja ¬ maica this year Misleader has lacked early speed but has been closing ground in the late stages Tomorrows race should be more to his liking with at least two of the field capable of setting a fast pace paceApropiado Apropiado has failed to show any semb ¬ lance of his 1947 form in New England but the gray son of Gino recently finished third in a similar race to serve notice he is on an upward pace to regain the lost form In the above mentioned race Shadow Shot and Camps First finished fourth and fifth respectively and either will have to display improvement to enter the charmed circle in this event Shadow Shot owned by Sandy Strand Stable will carry 109 pounds four less than toted in his last lastBelltheCat BelltheCat and R B Carrolls Belrate ran in the Commonwealth Handicap a local stakes offering 10 days ago and failed to impress in the middle distance affair won by Lazy F Ranchs Calvados Belrate was the lightweight of the field under 105 pounds and finished fourth beaten nearly seven lengths while BelltheCat finished a poor last in the field of eight
