Detroits Sturgis Purse Draws Nine Speedsters SpeedstersCrack Crack Reward Diamond Dick and Joes Laddie to Match Strides StridesFAIR FAIR GROUNDS Detroit Mich May 22 A field of nine fleet sprinters will pro ¬ vide the main attraction at this course on Monday when they meet in the sixfur ¬ long Sturgis Purse to headline an evenly balanced program The entrants with the exception of F Spellmans Pappys Pride are well known to local patrons and the race shapes up as one particularly brimful of keen competition Best of the support ¬ ing races is the one mile and a sixteenth Concord Claiming Purse in which seven rivals carry claiming tags ranging from 10000 to 8000 8000In In the Sturgis chief rivalry appears to lie between Theodore D Buhls hardhit ¬ ting Crack Reward Mrs George C Whites fleet Diamond Dick and A J HalliwelFs Canadian invader Joes Laddie The win ¬ ter campaign of Crack Reward was not very productive but in one sixfurlong sprint at Hialeah he was second when run ¬ ning for a claiming price of 20000 He was winner last year of a 10000 headliner at this course but he earns his most seri ¬ ous consideration on the strength of ex ¬ cellent trials trialsDiamond Diamond Dick is another who Has im ¬ pressed the splitsecond experts with the manner in which he has gone through his morning moves The son of Rolls Royce who holds the American record of 136 for one mile over the Detroit turf course needs only to run kindly to make his pres ¬ ence felt Joes Laddie is not overmatched against adversaries of this caliber on his best races The son of Shoeless Joe should earn some portion of this purse by a peak effort effortRay Ray Ankenbauers High Ego who will race coupled with Pappys Pride as both are trained by Harry Trotsek is by no means out of this picture The son of High Strung is capable of turning back rivals like these when in a running mood and he has often shown his fondness for this racing strip M H VanBerg will be represented by Unconditional who is no stranger in this sector He will have the expert saddle services of apprentice Gerald Porch PorchMrs Mrs K T Maxwell has named Fleet ridge and Graham Byrum will be rep ¬ resented by Marltown neither of which would occasion too great a surprise by a tally The field is completed by two mares Miss Marianna from the establishment of J A Kinard Jr and B H Wises O K Ruby RubyIn In the Concord Henry Forrests First Degree may come in for the bulk of public support The son of Third Degree is a ca ¬ pable sort who can be depended upon to do his best Night Crawler from the stable of Graham Byrum looms as a formid ¬ able adversary as does Wise Paisano who will carry the silks of the Detroit Stable Inc Trainer Harry Trotsek has named the entry of O F Woodwards San Yet and M J B Stables Jacopades and this team could prove troublesome The Concord field is rounded out by Mrs H M Goldsteins April Dawn and MCCosh who will repre ¬ sent the partnership of Bowles Seppen field
