Flood Causes Postponement Of Portland Meadows Meet PORTLAND MEADOWS Portland Ore May 31 Flood waters of increasing in ¬ tensity converged on the city of Vanport close by the Portland Meadows race track yesterday causing an emergency evacuation of all horses from the stable area and a temporary postponement of the current race meeting The raging flood brought Eome 15 feet of water to Vanport where 17 people were drowned before the populace could be evacuated There is a similar dike about 300 feet from the track and already there is seep ¬ age and some water in the stable area and near the clubhouse turn Some 650 horses were moved yesterday and many are now stabled at Salem and Gresham Fair Grounds William P Kyne general man ¬ ager of Portland Meadows has turned over the plant to the Red Cross for relief work Kyne as yet has made no decision as to when or whether the current meeting will be resumed It is dependent upon how long the present emergency lasts
