Statement by Peabody PeabodyStuyvesant Stuyvesant Perbody Jr chairman of the Illinois Racing Board issued the fol ¬ lowing statement regarding the settlement of the strike against the Lincoln Fields Racing Association by the HBPA HBPAThe The Illinois Racing Board is gratified at the resumption of racing with the open ¬ ing of the Lincoln Fields meeting meetingThe The cessation of racing would cause great loss of revenue to the Agricultural Premium Fund the Veterans Bonus Fund of the state of Illinois loss of employment to several thousand persons disappoint ¬ ment and inconvenience to the racing pub ¬ lic and severe monetary loss to the tracks and the horsemen horsemenThe The negotiations between the horsemen and Lincoln Fields had reached a deadlock after days of meetings and discussions At that point the Illinois Racing Board in the public interest entered the discussions and insisted that the settlement be made and racing resumed resumedThe The mediation efforts of the boards representatives Mr Joseph Solari and Mr Joseph P Broderick extended over a num ¬ ber of hours and at the boards insistence a settlement was reached which while not satisfactory to the management in many respects is deemed by the board to be necessary in order to protect the public interest and enable racing to be resumed resumedThe The purses for the meeting will aver ¬ age 24500 per day plus allowances for increased business This is a substantial in ¬ crease over the purse distribution of 1951 and it is the hope of the board that public response to racing will justify the settle ¬ ment mentThe The board appreciates the cooperation of the horsemen and Lincoln Fields Rac ¬ ing Association and hopes for continued friendly relations in the industry
