Arcaro Pleased and Surprised SurprisedBELMONT BELMONT PARK Elmont L I N Y May 12 Eddie Arcaro was pleased and a little surprised this morning to find that he had been engaged to ride Mrs Walter M Jeffords One Count in the Preakness Left without a mount when Hill Gail was temporarily retired Eddie had about given up hope of a live mount in Saturdays Pimlico event Ted Atkinson who rode One Count into second place in the Withers has to stay at Belmont Park to ride One Hitter in the Metropolitan Handicap for his contract employer Greentree Stable Atkinson said that he thought One Count had an excellent chance in the Preakness pointing out that his race in the Withers followed his winning mile and a sixteenth at Belmont very closely Arcaro said that he had been much impressed by One Counts winning race here and obviously had high hopes of winning his third straight Preakness He scored with Hill Prince in 1950 and with Bold last year
