CONNORS CORNER By Chuck Connors BELMONT PARK Elmont L I N Y May 12 The old race track adage horses for courses was highlighted on Saturday when Armageddon ac ¬ counted for the With ¬ ers This homebred son of Alsab and Fight ¬ ing Lady who races for the Cain Hoy Stable of Harry F Guggenheim is partial to Belmont Park His two outstanding tri ¬ umphs the Champagne and Withers were scored over some rep to many and according to biblical students and there are quite a few on the race tracks is taken from the Book of Revela ¬ tions The legend is that Armageddon is the spot at which one of the final battles of the world will be fought However there were some at Belmont Park on Saturday who are likely to disagree with the good book for when he humbled the others that as far as they were concerned was the final big battle Well we dont argue with that but the fact remains that the one eyed colt will be a factor in the Belmont Stakes which is down for decision on the first Saturday in June Armageddon lost his eye from an infection the result of being struck by a clod of dirt during the running of the Champagne The optic was treated upon his return to the stable and for while showed improvement Later in the winter during the Hialeah season during a training move the same eye was injured by flying dirt This time the veterinarians were unable to save his sight With the Withers in
