Mr Dink Tallies at Sportsman In Endurance Handicap No 1 Through in Role of Favorite To Lead Mid Century Home HomeBy By j J MURPHY MURPHYSPORTSMANS SPORTSMANS PARK Cicero 111 May 5 The favorite won the first of the series of distance events staged here this after ¬ noon when Mr Dink a sevenyearold owned by Brian Wise of Benton Harbor Mich came through with a clever win The race which was knovn as the Endur ¬ ance Handicap No 1 was at one and one sixteenth miles and Mr Dink ridden by Don Wagner came from last place to score Second money was earned by Emerald Isle Hotel Stables Mid Century who also fin ¬ ished fast while Our Kite who set most of the pace garnered third money from Day ¬ light Time The winner paid 720 and completed the distance in 149 His vic ¬ tory was witnessed by a crowd of 9505 the largest of the week weekOur Our Kite Forges to Front FrontTen Ten horses were engaged in the Endur ¬ ance and Fancy Gent who was racing as an entry with Calicut and was ridden by Tony Skoronski set out to make the pace accompanied by Our Kite The pair raced on equal terms for a trifle less than a half mile when Our Kite forged to the front Going down the backstretch Wagner sent Mr Dink up on the outside and the gelding staged a strong charge nearing the stretch turn to take command Then despite going very wide on the last turn he drew out to score by one and onehalf lengths lengthsIt It marked the second success of the season for Mr Dink who was victorious victoriousContinued Continued on Page FortyFive Mr Dink Makes Good In Endurance Handicap HandicapVindicates Vindicates Role of Favorite to Beat Mid Century at Sportsmans Continued from Page One Oneat at Oaklawn Park The day was cloudy and cool and the track was fast fastTony Tony Skoronski rode two of the first half dozen winners He started the day off well with a success on Marion Vanbergs Foxie Jeanie in the opener The Cicero reinsman rushed the threeyearold filly to the head soon after the start and she was never in danger winning the five fur ¬ long affair by five lengths while Suitur self the favorite was unplaced Skoronski beat another shortpriced choice with his other winning mount when MistOBlue took the measure of Bright Answer in the fourth Bright Answer with Keene up ran into a couple of switches while Mist OBlue who was second choice had clear sailing in the mile and a sixteenth event Tordar in taking the second race com ¬ pleted a 9420 Daily Double The vet ¬ eran Clarence Roberts was in the saddle and rode well He saved all possible ground with his sevenyearold charge and had him a short distance in advance of the favored Mr Tops at the finish of the sevenfurlong race Springbuck was the first public choice to click The fiveyear old with Ronnie Baldwin doing the riding took the third from Dupal after having been prominent from the start startCount Count Alex who but for poor racing luck would have won his last start was counted on by the majority of the patrons to take the fifth and the fouryearold ridden by Willie Cox did not disappoint He was always close up and saved ground in the stretch to win from Merry Sweeper and Forgotten Miss in that order Hoopde dont came through to victory in the sixth under the guidance of jockey Harold Keene Mels Best who helped make the pace was second and Equichall the fav ¬ thirdf orite ran third f nAsfcuM 2t ItoX c
