GNYA Group Makes Tour Of New Woodbine Track TrackCassidy Cassidy Is Greatly Impressed Following Inspection of Plant TORONTO Ont May ay 4 I wish we had it in New York its wonderful That was the opinion of the new Woodbine race track expressed by Marshall Cassidy who headed a touring group from the Greater New York Association the organization re ¬ sponsible for preparing and executing a program to revitalize facilities in the Em ¬ pire State The facilities here exceed anything we have seen in the United States insofar as accommodation and convenience to the public is concerned Cassidy added I cant fault it What Ontario racing needed was someone who was willing to stake a large investment in a modern track with facilities that would encourage the racing public and the Ontario Jockey Club has stepped in to fill that need This grand ¬ stand provides for every convenience to the racegoer from the sweeping view and com ¬ plete comfort with a minimum of move ¬ ment The provision for the officials for the stewards the placing judges and the camera are unequalled anywhere Again I wish we had it in New York YorkCassidy Cassidy who is secretarygeneral of the GNYA was accompanied by E L Ed Kilroe assistant to B A Tompkins of the administrative division of the GNYA and four engineers from the firm of Stone Webster The latter firm is responsible for preparing plans f or the New York tracks The were joined by Arthur E Froelich consulting architect from Philadelphia who worked with Torontos Earl Morgan in i designing the Woodbine plant The GNYA group will return to their New York City offices to consider what Woodbine has that New York can use useYou You have a great advantage over us observed Cassidy the drive out here t new Woodbine from Toronto was fast and pleasant I see there are improvements be ¬ ing made over even these roads in clover leafs and crossovers At Jamaica and Bel mont we have a tremendous traffic prob ¬ lem we are just beginning to work on Of course you dont have what Aqueduct has a stop on the subway This plant should be part of what Ontario needs to start the snowballing of higher attendance leading to bigger purses bigger purses to better horses and better racing and better racing to increases in attendance And Woodbine is prepared for that too with the space to increase the size of its grandstand and parking H
