FortyFour Are Eligible For 97th Queens Plate PlateRace Race Will Be Run on June 16 at Magnificent New Woodbine Oval OvalTORONTO TORONTO Ont May 4 The Ontario Jockey Club announced this morning that 44 threeyearolds still are eligible for the 91th consecutive running of the Queens Plate Canadas greatest horse race The Plate will be contested at the magnificent new Woodbine course near Malton Air ¬ port on Saturday June 16 16Owners Owners of the Canadianbred three yearolds which will compete in the race were required to make an interim payment of 100 by last Tuesday midnight Nomina ¬ tions for this years running of the Queens Plate originally closed on December 15 1054 and a record 258 colts and fillies were named by their owners with a payment of 10 A second subscription of 15 was re ¬ quired on December 15 1955 and after that date 90 horses remained eligible It will cost owners another 250 to put each horses name into the entry box the day before the big race raceThe The 44 colts fillies and geldings also are eligible for the running of the Plate Trial at a distance of one mile and 70 yards This race is carded for Tuesday June 5 the opening day of racing at the great new Woodbine course which covers 780 acres in Etobicoke Township on the west ¬ ern fringe of Toronto TorontoThe The field for this years renewal of the Queens Plate is headed by the aptlynamed Canadian Champ owned by William Beas ley of Toronto This bay colt by Windfields out of Bolesteo set a new earnings record for twoyearolds in Canada last season when he won six of his nine starts and collected 52580 in purses pursesRanked Ranked as second favorite by the stu ¬ dents of the winter book is Buntys Plight owned by the partnership of Conn Smythe and Larkin Maloney Buntys Flight won five of his 10 starts last season and has been training splendidly this spring
