Irish Racing Board Reports Overall Increase in Wagering WageringSpecial Special to Daily Racing Form DUBLIN Ireland May 6 Reuters Wagering at Irish race tracks increased and a downward trend in tote betting was reversed during the past nine months end ¬ ing last December according to a report of the Irish Racing Board for that period The report issued Monday showed that course wagers with bookmakers during the nine month period amounted to 14324576 compared with 14104944 for a complete year ending in March 1957 1957Corresponding Corresponding figures for totalisator betting were 4581282 and 5296421 Stakes for 926 races run in 1957 increased by 17928 to 796650 but the board was satisfied that the increase had not kept pace with the higher cost of keeping horses in training As a result grants were made to increase prize money for some of the smaller races
