National Guard Show Set For Delaware Park May 1 7 7Two Two Simulated Atomic Bombs To Be Dropped by Enemies STANTON Del May 7 Two simulated atomic bombs will be dropped by friendly and enemy forces during the fourth annual Delaware National Guard show to be staged at Delaware Park oh Armed Forces Day Saturday May l7 l7The The show which will begin in the race tracks huge infield at 200 pjn will also feature a display of the newest weapons in the parking area from noon to 4 p m The crowd which will be admittedjree to all phases of the demonstration will be entertained throughout the day by the 30 piece National Guard band bandThe The mock battle is being designed to look as close to modern warfare as possible with the one exception being that the spec ¬ tators will be entirely safe at all times The simulated Abomb drops will be fol ¬ lowed by the billowing up of two huge mushroom smoke clouds which will go about approximately 300 feet in the air They will require several minutes to dis ¬ appear The realistic mushroom clouds will be created by the detonation of a chemical powder Last year more than 10000 spec ¬ tators watched a similar demonstration demonstrationIn In revealing latest Guard plans for the show Maj Gen Joseph J Scannell state adjutant general said This years show will be a real spectacular and a rare op ¬ portunity for the public to witness a safe yet realistic atomicage military maneuver I urge the public to attend and enjoy this impressive ceremony At the same time the General expressed the Guards grati ¬ tude to Delaware Park for its cooperation and use of its facilities for the combined trainingeducational maneuvers
