Fifinella Miss Never Is Headed In Rancocas Trial at Comeen Revels in Sloppy Going to Defeat Tempest Tossed and VirMarie Choquettefiides ChoquettefiidesBy By FRED GALIANI GALIANIGARDEN GARDEN STATE PARK Camdcn N J May 7 Carl Weinhcimers Fifinella Miss victor in her last start at Gulfstream Park by six lengths scored handily in the fea ¬ tured Rancocas Trial Purse here this gloomy afternoon defeating her six rivals without much trouble At the finish of the fivefurlong test the same distance at which the Rancocas Stakes will be run next Wednesday Fifinella Miss was two and onequarter lengths before Lovely La Croix Tempest Tossed while almost a similar margin back was Carmen Berta zons VirMarie VirMarieJohn John Choquette came down from New York to handle the winning daughter of Big Dipper II guiding the miss to a front running victory in 100 over the extreme ¬ ly sloppy course Those in the crowd of 16454 who made her a solid choice received 380 for their 2 investment Rain fell again during the morning and gray overcast skies prevailed throughout the afternoon afternoonHas Has Won Half of Starts StartsA A bay daughter of Big Dipper II Hay Eddy Fifinella Miss was bred by her owner and has now won two of her four starts After finishing fifth in her maiden debut she was second to Lawdy Claudy in the second division of the Singing Tower Stakes at Gulfstream Off that effort she was made an oddson choice for her next start which confidence she justified with an easy score and again this afternoon did not desert her backers who made her less than even money moneyFifinella Fifinella Miss broke from the gate at once at the start of the Trial quickly splashing out to a lead Tempest Tossed was the most immediate pursuer while Wedlock and VirMarie were close enough to pose a threat Rounding the turn Vir Marie moved alongside of Tempest Tossed arid both of them closed in on the pace ¬ maker They xThey came x within a half length or so of the leader rounding the turn but Choquette turned his mount loose and she bounded away again Choquette tapped her once through the stretch took a quick look over Jais right shoulder and then merely hand rode the filly to the finish Tempest Tossed drew out from VirMarie in the last 70 yards to keep second position safe All seven of the juvenile fillies with the exception of Delta Vee who ran last are eligible for next Wednesdays stakes stakesA A J Leewards Wintus who had cam ¬ paigned this winter in Florida and Wind n Leaves Farms Some Tan making his first start since last September at Atlantic City combined to win the first two races for a 14120 Daily Double DoubleWintus Wintus ridden by John Covalli came from off the pace to defeat S Desideros Goldendeavour by almost a length Thorn Ridge Farms Petiole was third after hold ¬ ing an eighth length lead at one stage of the race Wintus paid 940 and traveled through the slop in 113 113Some Some Tan handled by Joe Culmonc took the lead at the start of the second race and maintained his advantage throughout finally scoring by a length and a half in the 6 furlong sprint Boncri t Farms Niv rag was a consistent second throughout Some Tan was riood for 1740 in the tote and required 11U to cover the distance
