Suffolk Cards Grass Program ProgramMacomber Macomber Memorial Heads Roster Four Lesser Turf Races Support New Schedule ScheduleEAST EAST BOSTON Mass May 13 Suf ¬ folk Downs which opens its 3 6day spring meeting on Monday has announced plans for an ambitious grass racing program headed by the 25000 added John R Macomber Memorial Handicap and the 10000 addedXTomasello Handicap Suf ¬ folk is the only New England course with a turf racing strip stripThe The two stakes will be supported by a series of four events on the grass for horses threeyearolds and up who have started for a claiming price of 3500 or less since February 15 The first race in the series is scheduled for May 28 at about 1 116 miles for a 3000 purse Both prize and distance will be increased in subse ¬ quent runnings with the final race on June 28 scheduled for about two miles and for a 5500 purse purseMany Many overnight events also have been scheduled for the turf course in Suffolks most ambitious grass racing program in years The MaComber which will be re ¬ newed for the fourth time on June 14 is for threeyearolds and up at about l lo o miles The Tomasello to be contested at about 1 116 miles on Memorial Day Fri ¬ day May 30 is for threeyearolds and up upSeven Seven Stakes Scheduled The two grass stakes are among the seven added money features to be present ¬ ed at the session Two new features wil be unveiled for Yankeeland fans th 25000 added Suffolk Downs Stakes foi threeyearolds at 6 furlongs and the 10000 added Pinafore Stakes for fillie and mares threeyearolds and up also a 6 panels panelsSuffolk Suffolk hopes the former will become meeting place for sophomores unable t travel the distances of the threeyearol classic events but who will develop intc standout sprinters It is up for decisioi on May 24 24The The Pinafore Suffolks first adde money event designed exclusively for dis taf Bracers will be offered on June 7 Th stake is an effort by Judge John CPappaf head of the course and his associates t offer a complete stakes program that wi attract top performers in all divisions t the track With the addition of the Pina fore Suffolk now offers sprints and dis tance events for threeyearolds and uj a sprint for twoyearolds and two tui handicaps The total stakes presentation is 14000 in added money
