GOSSIP OF THE KENTUCKY FARMS. Lexington, Ky., December 2S. The famous broodmare. Lady Reel, is among tbe mares bred to the Brooklyn Handicap winner, Delhi, at Castleton Stud last spring, and if she has a foal next spring it will be one of tbe first crop of colts or fillies by this horse. Lady Reel Is the dam of Hamburg, and there, is now -at Castleton a half-sister to Mr. Whitneys great horse in a slashing good-looking brown lilly by Bon Brush. Though it is not as yet fully decided, it is probable that Lady Reel will bo one of the first mares mated to Peter Pan. Among the thoroughbreds left by the late turfman, W. P. Knight, who died at his home iu Niebo-asville, Ky., a few days ago, is a handsome weanling filly by Star Ruby Lida H., the dam of Claude. Lida H. was bred to Garry Hermann last spring, hut is not now in foal. At the time of his death Knight had negotiations under way looking to the shipment of the mare to Missouri in tbe spring to be mated to Sain. Colonel L. P. Tarlton, of the Fleetwood Stud, recently elected railroad commissioner to represent the Second District of Kentucky, will do all in his power to get transportation, freight and express companies to reduce the heavy charges now in force in shipping horses and thus lift from turfmen one-, of the biggest burdens they now have to carry in maintaining a racing stable.
