RICHARD CHOKERS IDEA OF BETTING In a recent talk with an American newspaper man at his home Glencalrn Ireland Richard Croker the exchieftain of Tammany said Cut out bet ¬ ting You might as well cut out eating Its human nature to bet All life Is a gamble That bay out there pointing to his fluids Is a gamble You cant go to bed at night without gambling on your getting up and you cant put a shirt on your back without going into a game of chance chanceOf Of the governor of New York whom Mr Croker does not know very well but who he thinks should be in the Salvation Army he has this to say Why I bet Elder Hughes gambles himself only he does it In a different way He says to the bookmaker Ion quit your way of making a living but I wont quit mine You take the money on the races and I take money on the business gamble or the law gamble tho biggest con game profession known or something else
