WAS THE ASCOT GOLD CUP MELTED A remarkable story reaches us from a wellknown firm of gold and silver refiners In Sheffield They state that some time after the Ascot CUP had been stolen two years ago a man called upon them wish Ing to dispose of an ingot of gold It was un ¬ usually pure gold and as men are not In the habit of running round with gold ingots they became suspicious They found that the gold was twenty carat corresponding with the unusual carat of the Ascot Sold Cup and that the Ingot was within two and a half ounces of the weight of the stolen trophy trophyThe The police were informed and careful inquiries were made In the end they accepted the story of the man who said that he bad got the gold in Aby ¬ ssinia It was wortli nearly S14 per ounce The heads of the linn however still feel convinced that the ingot was the Ascot Cup melted down Shuf fleld Ens Telegraph
