Stargowan began slowly, but improved his position on the turn out of the backstretch and outgamed Trey of Spades In the final drive. The latter was a game and forward contender all the way. Belle of the Bay closed a big gap in the last quarter. The Clown made up ground. The winner was entered for ,200; no bid. Michael Beck moved up with a rush on the backstretch. caught and passed the leaders quickly, opened a bis: lead on the far turn and kept drawing away to the end. Ballet Girl, a rapid breaker, showed in front for the lirst furlong and was unable to keep pace with the winner, but was easily best of the others. Red Doe. green at the post, broke well, but immediately dropped far back, then closed up steadily in the last half and may improve. Greenhow went fairly well. Pontotoc ran well on the fiat, but blundered at the ninth and fifteenth jumps and almost unseating his rider at the latter obstacle. Woodside ran close up with the leaders until in the last turn of the field, where he quit. Gartcrman fell at the fourth jump and McKinney was forced to pull Grandpa up to keep from jumping on him. Giies, a distant trailer for the lirst three furlongs, finished with a great stretch rush after being tii ken to the outside where the footing was firmest. Sal Volatile, off fast, set a fast pace for the first half and tired badlv at the end. Botanist ran a poor race over a track favorable to him. The Wrestler finished clone up. The latter began slowly and was badly outrun early, but finished fast and was gaining on the winner at the end. Aster dOr was much used in pacemaklng for the lirst seven furlongs and tired under punishment in the last eighth, ltio Grande bled and was cased up. Clements finished well. The latter showed speed, but lost ground when entering the homestretch, where she was taken wide. Ed Sinister showed early speed. Babble set the pace to the stretch and quit.
