+ — — + TWO STAKE RACES AT SHEEPSHEAD BAY THIS AFTERNOON *r f People patronizing Shecpshead Bay today will have the pleasure of viewing the running of two stake races of good value. The Vernal Stakes, for two-year-old fillies, will be run first of the two and will lie contested for the fifteenth time. It has been won by such grand fillies as Winged Foot, Briar Sweet. Sweet L-vender. Hatasoo. Beldame. Tradition. Melisainie and Ocean Bound and may Ik* won today by one apparently as good as any of them. The Commonwealth was first run in 1901 and was established as a sequel race to the Suburban. From the outset it was a race id the highest ini| ortance and one fought out by the best horses of the succeeding years in thrilling displays of speed and stamina.
