TWO FRENCH EPSOM DERBY CANDIDATES Tho good reports conierning the wellbeing of Pommern may with equal emphasis be extended to Friar Marcus and King Priam His Majestys colt is a prime favorite with all the best judges who are unanimously of opinion that he has length ¬ ened and grown into an exceptionally handsome and powerful colt My correspondent is much ini Iprcssed with the undefeated son of Cicero which he describes as a perfect pirtnrc and a splendid galloper Favorably noted also are M Edniond Blancs two French colts under the care of Tom Jennings Florimond by Wild Fowler Uelle Fleur and Le Mel for by Ajax Ischia both of which were winners in France last summer The first ran but once and must have done something smart as odds of 4 to 1 were laid on him and lie Justified this confidence by easily winning the Prix de Geneto at Saint Cloud in July Le Melior also made a successful debut on the same ground when be easily accounted for eleven opponents in the Prix des Cuirassiers but failed badly at his next and last essay when with odds of 7 o I on Iiiui he only finished sixth to Clairet Mazzara and Koi Graioii at MaisonsLaffitte I make special mention of these rolls because both are engaged in the Derby and Gold Cup while in addition Le Melior remains in the Coronation Cup at Kpsom and Florimoud in the AllAged Stakes at = Vigilant in London Sportsman
