LATONIAS COMING FEATURES Much Interest Displayed in Valuable Cincinnati Trophy and Latonia Oaks LATONIA Ky June 28 Latonia patrons are looking forward with a considerable decree of inter ¬ est to the impending renewal of the Cincinnati Trophy the last of the local spring stakes for two yearolds which will be run Saturday July 2 It is believed that this stake will decMe the much mooted question as to which of the juveniles is entitled to the western championship honors It was expected that the running of the Harold Stakes last Saturday would settle the question of su ¬ periority among the colts but it failed of its purpose as G F Bakers John Finn heretofore regarded as the peer of the colts failed to defeat Montfort Jones Rockminister decisively and left considerable doubt in the minds of horsemen as to his ability to defeat the Jones colt ever a longer route than the Harold Stakes which is at five eighths of a mile Both colts are eligible to the Cincinnati Trophy at threequarters of a mile which distance will furnish a truer test of their ability In this stake they will be opposed by Miss Joy and Fair Phantom both the property of Montfort Jones and rightfully regarded as the best of the juvenile fillies racing in the West Many horsemen are of the opinion that the running of the Cincinnati Trophy will demonstrate that these two fillies will prove immeasurably superior to either John Finn or Rockminister or any other colt that may start in the stake stakeOn On Saturday July 2 the rich Latonia Oaks for threeyearold fillies will be decided This race has an endowment of 10000 added and is at one mile and a quarter It is accounted one of the foremost of western turf fixtures and next to the Kentucky Oaks is the most important Kentucky stake for threeyearold fillies It had its inception in tiie year 1887 and was run continuously until 1909 after which it was abandoned and not revived until last year when it was won by E R Bradleys Busy Signal For the approaching renewal of the race there are sixtyfive eligibles Including all of the threeyearold fillies that have been racing prominently this year Nancy Lee a victor in the Kentucky Oaks is among the number but it is rphlRm ticaI lieOieF64vtwraltaAi HarB wlllsend the filly west to start In this stake The field that will go to the post in this event will be re ¬ cruited from among such onus of proven merit as Bit of White Believe Idle Hour Clio Cho Aphie Dear Bettina Fallacy Pongee Dimples Cozette Lady Madcap Golden Dreams and Doric Among the eastern owned fillies are Step Lightly Careful and Prudery but their respective owners have given no indication of shipping them west to race in the stake It is confidently believed that a representa ¬ tive field will be named and that the contest will be thoroughly in keeping with the best traditions of this stake which numbers among its twentyfour winners such sterling racers as May Hcmpstead Ida Pickwick Flora Pomona Lady Savoy Chulita and Crystal Maid
