P0ND0LAND FINE ENGLISH 2-YEAR-OLD LONDON. England. June 20. An English two-year-old colt of which a great deal may be heard later is S. B. Joels Pondoland, which started a hot favorite at Newbury, where he won the Berkshire Foal Stakes of ,000. pulling up by four lengths. Pondoland is a good looking, well-grown coll, with a lot of his sires best characteristics. Ponimern lias certainly made a fine commencement at the stud. Pondoland is from Gourouli, which Mr. S. Joel bought in France. For him she won the Fitzwilliam Stakes at Newmarket, and has bred Sundari and Kapiere. both useful race horses. Gourouli is by St. Damien Glave, which produced Ob, a winner of eleven races and over 8,000. He won the Lincolnshire Handicap in 1900 and 1907. Glave was by Minting Gloria, which won half-mile races aiid bred the Cambridgeshire winner Gloriation. The fourth dam of Pondoland is Caller Ou, a remarkable mare which ran in ninety-eight races. She won, or walked over, in forty-nine, including the St. Legcr. in which she defeated the Derby winner Kettledrum by a head. This is the Queen Mary family. John Sanford of Amsterdam. N. Y., now owns the mare Genny, which is a sister to the dam of Pondoland. Genny has this year been mated with Hapsburg, son of Desmond. Perhaps, in view of the success of Pondoland, she may go to Pommem next year.
