The latter showed the most early speed under slight restraint, but tired in the last eighth. STAUNCH finished gamely and passed SCOTTISH CHIEF in the final sixteenth. CLARE FRANCES had no mishaps. RUNSTAR, away fqrwardly and having a clear course, rushed into the lead and set a fast pace when" well into the stretch, but repeatedly bumped and hampered KAI-SANG, for which he was disqualified. KAI-SANG, under slight restraint in the early running, moved up gamely at tin? eighth post, but his rider was leg-locked by RUNSTARS jockey and he was unable to get by. LITTLE CHIEF ran well and finished fast. MUSTARD SEED met with slight early interference and was forced wide on the turns, but finished gamely and outstayed YANKEE STAR. The latter, away slowly, Avas cut off frequently while endeavoring to slip through and ran a creditable race. PENITENT had a rough race for the first half mile and was not persevered with when beaten. JUNE GRASS set a fast pace brieily, but iiit early. RIB GRASS was never prominent. PIRATE McGEE moved up steadily when called on and finished fast and gamely. MOSE, outpaced in the early running, closed a gap and came with a rush after entering the stretch, but tired in the last eighth. EPISODE set a good pace, but tired in the last quarter. PHALARIS ran a bad race and was never prominent. GEM quit after going well for a half mile. REPARATION, always a prominent contender, hnished fast and gamely and would have won in a few more strides. SHAFFER saved ground on all the turns and easily held third place safe. BEVERLY BELLE tired. CLOUGIIJORDAN began forwardly, but was forced to pull up when KNOT GRASS crowded him to the inner rail in the last eighth. KNOT GRASS set a fast early pace, but quit after going a half mile.
