NOTES OF XHK TURF. The Board of Directors of the Hamilton, Ont., Jockey Club haB elected its officers for 1900. Samuel Barker has consented to again accept the presidency, and the vice-presidents are William Hendrie, Jr., and F. C. Bruce. T. B. Martin, the efficient secretary, will fill that important office asain. Hereafter the entry of Aratotna will ba refused at New Orleans unless he can be cured of his habit of running away when seat to the post. In his last race Vandueen was put up on tbe theory that be would prove strong enough to control the horse, but Aratoma made a show of Vandusen. Mr. Gilpin, acting for Hon. W. C. Whitney, purchased at the recent Newmarket saleB in England the bay horBe Eager, 5, by Enthusiast Greeba, by Melton, for 7,500. Eager is one of the best horses in England, and ho is considered there a bargain at the price above named. Following are tbe amountB of declarations in the stakes of the Brooklyn Jockey Club due January 1, 1900: Great American, 0; Tre-mont, 820; Expectation, 0; Hudson, 0; Criterion, 0; Junior Champion, 0; Derby, 0; Carlton, 5, and Gazelle, 5, The Fretter was sold at auction recently to J. Morris for 51.5CO. The Fretter is the horse that was ruled off with his owner several months ago at Oakland. Mr. ORonrke, who owned him, was given parmhsion to sell by the Board of Stewards. "Subscriber," St. Louis, Mo. Ventoro was not entered in the race you speak of, so yon could not lose by betting on him, and the bookmaker should refuad your money without a question.
