LAKESIDE RACING, i Lakesides crowd yesterday was a slim one. 1 It was a trying atmosphere for man and beast, but the rain amounted to little. Cold and chilly as the day was, the racing was good and the betting active. Albert Simons said that Deni-zulu was a good thing for the first race, and his prophecy materialized, the colt lying second to Kid Cox into the straight, and winning easily at the finish. The 4 to a posted against Robert Waddell, who ran third, appeared to be extremely short, the race being for maidens. Meddler, backed from 4 to 1 down to 11 to 5, had the outside position and, knocked about, was in the rear at the turn. Gaining gradually, he caught the leaders at the five-eighths post and was in the lead at the last quarter. Whipped out, he won from the favorite, Rollins, who also was interfered witli early in the race. Heroics, backed from 30 to 10. was prominent the first five-eighths. Annowan kicked everything near him at the post and the starter made the jockey take his unruly brute back of the field. He got away flying and had none the worst of the start. | Lovable shrunk so with the cold that the boy j | dismounted and the girth was tightened on two j occasions at the post. Fidel Youlin got a bad ride carrying the i money of some smart people. Another set got the money playing Louisville across the board. Lovable ran a disappointing race. In the tightest kind of a drive Molo caught Boney Boy always the leader close in and secured first money. Jolly Roger displayed his uncertain qualities, getting away in front and soon dropping out of the race. J. E. Cushings Miss Daniels, well ridden, won the fifth race. Lillie Pantland and Gibson Girl made the pace and were dead in the last 100 yards. Mr. dishing told inquirers that his filly was a good one, but had never started, and that the boys in his stable said she would win. Waters k Hodges Polly Pitcher, in the last race, furnished a sensation in the betting ring. OLeary posted 100 to 1, but backers only got 20 a6 the highest price. They hammered this figure down to 7 to 1 at the post.
