His Excellency ran a smashing good race and was admirably handled all the way through by Winkfield, who nursed him along until the stretch was reached and rode a strong finish. Batten was badly ridden by Vandusen, who made too much use of him in spots and ran him through the heaviest going in the stretch. Compensation was clearly the best of the others. Possum was admirably ridden by Boland and ran a good, game race. Aureole was not so well handled and was a very tired horse at the finish. She seemed to have the race won at the eighth post. Plantain was clearly third best and well handled. Headlight II. was well backed, but ran disappointingly. Deyo will bear watching. High Noon seems to be improving. The others wont do. Lennep was well ridden, being kept in a good position all the way through and brought up with a terrific rush at the finish nipping out Isabinda; who had seemed to be winning easily. Gibraltar ran well and seems to be improving fast. Judge Wardell stopped in the stretch as though he had been struck with a club. The showing made by him on this occasion is hard to fathom. The others were a bad lot today. Lennep, place, 8 to 5; show, 4 to 5. Isabinda, place, 2* to l;show, evens. Gibraltar, show, 7 to 10. Judge Wardell, place, 1 to 2 ; show, out.
