.IOHN A. THATtHKR DEAD. Mr. John A. Thatcher, a valued member of Daily Racing Fo ems staff, died of consumption yesterday afternoon at Hahnemann Hospital, this city. Intelligence of hi6 death will come with a shock to a host of friends and acquaintances we«t and e::st. His connection with newspaper work was of many years standing and on many influential publications his crisp, gossipy style of composition won favor and read ere. Hi* field was mainly in the line of racing and billiards, but. he was a man well read ami well informed on all current lines of thought. At one time sporting editor of the Tribune.be also did much work for the News and other local newspapers. IJorn at Cleveland, Ohio, he was forty-eieht vears of age at the time of his death. He leaves a widow and one child. Mr. Thatcher was a genial, companionable man of a cheerful temperament, yet a man of resolute pride and confidence in himself. His death was sudden, unexpected and peaceful.
