eye wae greeted on all aidrs by many improve ¬ ments the infield being a dream to look upon It was generally conceded that no prettier rac ¬ ing plant exists in America today todayThe The feature event of the day was the Golf Steeplechase over the short course with 800 added Had it not been for the stumbling of Crest over the sixth jump the race would have been cleancut throughout The winner turned tip in Filon dOr which was in a running mood and fencing cleanly throughout simply played with his field Be suffered Crest and Alice B to make the running up to the ninth jump when he went into the lead with a bound and remained there to the end winning by two lengths from Alice B which beat Bermuda Hundred four for second place Donatioa waa given a dull listless ride and vras held entirely too far out of the contest Crest went down heavily over the eizth jump but it was almost a miracle ehe did not go down over the fifth the jockey saving himself by clinging to her neck Alice B ran a good race but had no chance with the winner winnerTesnvian Tesnvian vras not dull of speed yesterday tak ¬ ing Scotch Plaid into camp with ridiculous ease in the fourth race and showing a vast improve ¬ ment over his poor running at Hawthorne Scotch Plaid was allowed to show the way for the first half mile and then it was all over for Knight called ou Jennings horse and he moved away from Scotch Plaid as if tho latter was tied He simply cantered in front to the end winning by two and a half lengths while Scotch Plaid beat Strangest twelve for second place placeHiss Hiss Bennett appeared to be dropped into a soft spot in the sprint race but Burnia Bunton made her extend herself to win by a half length with Federal third three lengths away The six furlocgs were negotiated in 113 a very creditable performance Miss Bennett and Burnio Bnnton ran lapped for the whole jour ¬ ney but the latter hung in the last sixteenth and showed she lacked gameness Federal ran a eraekicg good race finishing stoutly Oscar a rank outsider showed much speed for five furlongs and should secure a bracket for him ¬ self when placed right rightThe The youngster racelfhe fifth on the card re suited in a rousing finish between Jaubert Bocewar and Isbtar which finished noses apart in the order named It appeared very much to the spectators as if Bosewar had won probably because she was finishing so fast One stride beyond the wire she was a neck in the lead Ishtar was probably the beet but was the vic ¬ tim of a weak ride little Meado floundering about badly in the closing strides Herodiade started out to make the running closely fol ¬ lowed by Jaubtrt and Ishtar with Bosewar fifth There was little change in these positions mntil nearicg the last eighth where the Bennett youngster tired Janbert and Ishtar moving up to his throatlatch In the last one hundred yards the race seemed to have resolved itself into a merry tilt between the Bcoggan and Poniatowski babies but nearing th wire Bosewar on the outside came witba sudden rush the three passing so closely over the line that nobody but the judges could separate them Jaubert on the inside lail was given the decision with Hosewar sec ¬ ond and Ishtar third Herodiade waa four lengths back of the trio Mary Pine showed I early speed but could not carry it far VVhiffit was virtually left at the post postThere There was a tedious delay at the poat in the sixtk race on aecbuot of an unruly field nearly twentyfive minutes being consumed before Dvryer could get the horses in alignment At the barriers rise Fleuron darted to the front accompanied by Likeness and Evelyn Bird with the rest of the field well bunched with the ex ¬ ception of Constellator and If Yon Dare which wera virtually out of the contest at this early stage of the proceedings Fleuron opened a gap of two and a half lengths on Likeness before reaching the final straightaway with Braw Lad moving into third position In the run in Fleuron quit and it appeared at the last six ¬ teenth post that Likeness would win easily but nearing the wire Andes closed with a whirl and was only beaten by the shortest of heads Flenron was third two lengths away Evelyn Bjrd finished well and ran a good race Min yon was badly cut off on the inside rail at the last sixteenth post She was going fast at the time Braw Lad was a Keen contender up to a sixteenth oat where his dickey legs began to go back on him and he fell suddenly oat of the hunt If Yon Dare and Constellator had no chance from where they got off as both met with an early entanglement that threw them out of the contast contastThe The days opener went to Bennetts W B Gates which came from away back when enter ¬ ing tho stretch and passing his field handily beat out the tiring leader Banco at the end by a length going away Banco showed tho most speed up to the final sixteenth where be began to prop Bylowas poorly ridden and messed about generally He finished with a rush beat ¬ ing out the tiring Lucille Bramble for third place by a length Triaditza was right there for six furlongs and then sprawled noticeably The finale was taken by the consistent Alaska which laid along within reach of the loader up to the final quarter where he was called upon and quicker than a flash he went into the lead holding it easily all through the stretch and winning easily by a length Tammany Chief was second four in front of Dagmar The Schorr gelding finished with determination but was unable to overhaul the winner Frangible was ridden all over the track Schwartz was too light to hold his Loadup LoadupJ J
