ALL FAVORITES DAY. The excellent card of races offered by the .Lakeside management Saturday was the means of drawing out the largest crowd of the week, the half holiday element being much in evi- dence. The sport furnished a red lettei day as far as favorites were concerned, the entire seven passing under the wire first. The betting was unusually brisk and heavy, the public quitting the day decidedly winner. The feature race of the day was the fifth, a handicap for three-year-olds and upward at one and one-eighth miles. Orontas, which has been running consistently of late, proved to be the best and was well supported by the public. Searcher led away off to himself for the first mile, but tired rapidly in the last eighth. Hero Orontas and Boiling Boer moved np fast, the former drawing easily away in the last sixteenth and winning by a length while Boiling Boer beat the tiring Searcher three-quarters of a leDgth for second place. Omdurman was always outrun and Ben Chance was outclassed. Money Mubb showed all his speed in the fourth racs, a sprint of six furlongs, leading all the way and winning in impressive faBhion by a neck from the fast closing Baa Qneon, which beat If You Dare two lengths for Btcond place. Beat Queen was undoubtedly the bst at the weights but was handicapped by a weak ride. Federal finished stoutly and would have bsen third in a few more strides. Gonfalon ran well for five furlongs but tired in the last eighth. , Denman Thompson was always outrun. Evelyn Bird finally found a spot where she could win, taking the days opener a six far-long dash without much trouble by a length from Mango which bsat Harney one for second place. Harney improved suddenly and ran a good race. Homage was short. The race should do her good and put her on edge for a good race next time out. Star Cotton showed early speed. Rival Dare, despite tho fact that she carried top weight succeeded in reaching tho wire first in the second race, a six furlongs dash. She won by a half lsngth from the fast closing Aaron, sho beating Sam Lazarus Esq. one length for second place. Sam Lazarus Esq. is good just now and ready to win a good race, especially through the mud. Nyx and The Boer showed wall for five furlongs. Nellie Waddell outclassed the field in the third race, a scramble of five furlongs for two-year-old, and Bimply played with it winning well in hand by two and a half lengths. Herodes, a rank outsider "in the betting:, just lasted long enough to beat Amigari a nose on the post for second place. Lacrimae was always outrun. I. Samelson has seemingly Btaled. Miracle II., with his light impost of 74 pounds, outgamed Lennop in the closing strides of the sixth race, a dash of once around the circle, winning by a neck in a hard drive, Telamon was third, six lengths back. He ran far below expectations. Lennep opened up an early gap that seemed as if it would lead her to an eaBy victory, but she tired while coming down the last quarter. Pay the Fiddler came with a rush in tho final eighth and would have been third in a stride or two. Wayward Boy showed well only for six furlongs. Tho last race of the day went to Barilla which easily overcame Red Apples big lead when coming down the laBt quarter, winning going away by two lengths, while Bed Apple beat the fast coming Precursor a length for second place. Bed Apple opened up a big gap all down the backstretch and well into the laBt quarter but was all out by the time the paddock gate had been reached. Myth had no chance from where he got off. The meeting lastB three more days which will wind up the local races for the season of 1901. 1 1 1 i i
