Past broke flatfooted and was compelled to go wide on all turns, but finished strongly and won going away. Choate, a fast beginner, showed the way to the stretch and held on well in the final drive. Hinsdale ran a good race. Bessie McCarthy disliked the soft going and was outrun and in close quarters for the first half, but moved up with a rush in the last three furlongs. Caithness was pocketed and interfered with around the last turn and in the stretch. Loone and Mosketo both failed to stay. Animosity, evidently stale, quit after going six furlongs. Sadducee, in rare form, waited through the first half hard hold and when called on went to the front like a flash and was easing up in the last furlong. Ben Mac Dhui broke slowly and under a bad ride fell out of contention on the backstretch. He raced wide around the field on the turn and finished strongly and was easily second best. Meistersinger displayed improved speed and held on well. Clonmell failed to stay after being prominent for the first half. Recent long races have probably hurt him. Ieia quit in the stretch and is still short. Scratched 33878 St. Finnan. 127; 339213Belle of Lexington, 122; 33804 Ilium, 114. Sadducee, show, out. Ben Mac Dhui, show, 2 to 5. Winner B. c, by St. Maxim Frances S. trained by R Miller. Went to post at 3 :40. At post 1 minute. Start good. Won easily ; second driving. Francesco is of stake class. He forced a tremendously fast pace throughout and won going away. Advance Guard broke slowly and moved up fast on the far turn, but evidently was not keyed up, as he failed to make good at the end in his usual decisive fashion. Ethics came from last place at the half and joined issue right at the end, but was outgamed by Advance Guard in a hard final drive. Sadie S. failed to stay. Cuspidor and St. Finnan were outclassed. Winner B. g, by Lissak Mag Rapture trained by W Smith. Went to post at 4:15. At post 3 minutes. Start good. Won driving; second handily. Maiden secured a lucky start and outpaced and outstayed his field throughout. Cornwall challenged strongly in the last quarter and barely held his own. Oclawaha, in light, outstayed Songster. The latter showed marked improvement. Hossignol finished fast. Lucent closed a big gap from a bad start. Jim Tully, nearly left, went around the big field on the turns, but had no chance and was eased up at the end. Kalif practically forced the pace throughout and stole a long and winning lead at the beginning of the final quarter, finished in great form and ran the best race of his career. Pearl Finder was hopelessly pocketed on the stretch turn and when given clear sailing came too late to overhaul the winner. Leonid was very sore and under a hard drive to keep up after being nearly left at the post. He was badly messed about and interfered with by Handicapper quitting in front of him at the end. The latter was unable to sustain his fine speed for more than seven furlongs. Prince Richard went well. Peninsulas chances were practically destroyed when he was carried very wide on the first turn. Leonid was claimed by H. T. Griffin for ,700. Scratched 33853 Black Dick, 104; 33341 Justice, 98 ; 33836 Early Eve, 97; 33907 Fair Knight, 96. Kalif, show, 8 to 5. Pearl Finder, show, 1 to 4.
