SPECIAL PURSES AT KINLOCH. "Capt. Patrick J. Carmody, who is in charge of affairs at Kinloch, announced last night that the directors and officers of the Kinloch Racing Association had concluded to offer the following purses, special purses and handicaps," says yesterdays St. Louis Republic : "August 14, inaugural, ,000 guaranteed. "August 16, special handicap, name to be announced, 50. "August 21, special handicap, name to be announced, 50. "August 23, special handicap, name to be announced, 50. "August 28, the Brulare Cup, steeplechase handicap, ,500. "August 30, special handicap, name to be announced, 50. "In the sixteen days the association proposes to give away about ,500 in special races. It is understood that the handicaps will be named after prominent citizens who are lovers of horse racing. Mr. Carmody said last night that Tom Nepper, who has been superintending the track, has it in fine condition. There will be plenty of water, too, said Mr. Carmody, for all purposes. "Captain Carmody specifically stated that J. J. Holtman and Richard Dwyer would do the starting. It had been said that Holtman had engaged himself to one of the Canadian tracks during August. I have Mr. Holtmans verbal contract, said Mr. Carmody. That is enough. "Mr. Hopper, who will preside in the stand, will have the privilege of choosing his own associates. He wrote Captain Carmody yesterday that he wanted good, strong men with him. "Carmody said last night that he expected fifty good horses from Chicago, and that Barney Schreiber had promised to send Otis along."
