Jerry was outrun to the stretch, where he closed up with a tremendous rush and caught the leaders tiring. Tioga was shut off at the far turn, but finished fast and was caught napping by the winner in the last few strides. Kentucky Rose forced the pace throughout and hold ou gamely after disposing of Woodlake. The latter broke slowly and tired badly after a hard and unavailing effort to take the lead. Rough Rider broke fiatfooted, raced into prominence in the first half and came away strongly when straightened for home. Military was compelled to come wide on the stretch turn, but finished well and wore Cogswell down in the last furlong. The latter displayed good speed and stuck to his work well. Dr. Clark ran as if short. Ninonia ran a good and consistent race, but is of moderate caliber. Pleasant Sail ran poorly and can do better. Won easily ; second the same, John Barleycorn, improved in condition, waited on the pacemaker to the stretch turn where he went to the front easily, but was mildly hand ridden at the end to beat Octoroon. The latter finished very strongly after sulking in the first part of the race. Miss Buttermilk was tiring in the last quarter and Lord Badge would have heen third in another stride. Outsider runs like a rater and should show to advantage over a distance. Valley Forge went a good seven furlongs. Lady Iona was nearly left and was interfered with when Silver Twist fell right after the start. Scratched 37333 Judge Du Relle, 112; 338572Stevedore, 109. John Barleycorn, show, 4 to 5. Sombrero ran under a choking pull to the stretch, where he went to the front like a flash when called on and was easily best. Bellario moved up fast on the far turn and led into the stretch by a good margin, but easily succumbed to the winners challenge in the last furlong. Nones was outrun and under pressure to keep within striking distance, but finished strongly and outstayed Anak in the final drive. The latter put up an exceedingly good performance. Sister Juliet showed well for six furlongs on a spetd basis, but failed to stay. Monograph retired after going a fast seven furlongs and is rounding into form evidently.
