SARATOGA GOSSIP. Saratoga, N. Y August 28. The Saratoga racing season closed today in a blaze of glory. Generous and prolonged applause greeted the bugler when he played "taps" in calling the field to the post for the last race, and the largest share of the spontaneous hand clapping was an expression of intense approval bestowed upon the master hand that had wrought so well in the person of Mr. W. C. Whitney, who was easily the most conspicuous figure in the stewards stand. The bad start in the Saranac Handicap was greatly deplored on account of the marvelous showing made by Francesco, which was nearly left and was timed the nine furlongs separately from wire to wire in 1:50. The famous race mare, Los Angeles, has been sold by her owner, "Lucky" Baldwin, to Isaac Labold for 0,000. It appears that Senator OBriens case was misstated, and that only the one hore e, Hans Wagner, was put under the ban. He raced his horse Wild Pirate today. W. J. Thompson "Duke of Gloucester" waB at the track today. C. J. Fitzgerald is reported to be doing well and on the road to rapid recovery.
