Mr. Fitzgerald is well on the way to recovery from hisrecent attack of typhoid fever," At the dinner given by Mr. Whitney to the directors of the Saratoga Association for the Improvement of the Breed of Horses at the club Tuesday night the affairs of the association were informally discussed. One of the men who was at the dinner made the following statement : "There were no set speeches, but everybody chipped in something to the general conversation. It seemed to be the general opinion of all the directors that, when the matter came up for formal decision, the same dividend on the stock as was declared last year should be declared this year. The net profits last year were about 8,000. The estimated profits this year from the meeting which will close on Thursday will be about 30,000. "The increase shows the wisdom of increasing the price of admission, and you may depend upon it that the admission will be before it is ever again . The purses will be increased next year and all the surplus will be used in making next years meeting better than this. "Entries for many of the stakes to be run next year closed on the 18th. One of these is a new event, to be called the Saratoga Derby. It will be a race for three-year-olds, at one and five-sixteenths miles, with ,000 added. The stake closed with 168 entries and promises to be worth to tne winner between 5,000 and 0,000. Of the stakes which closed on the 18th, the nominations averaged forty more to a stake than they did last year."
