IMPS LAST APPEABANCE. Imp, the noted black mare by Wagner Fondling, the most popular thoroughbred that ever looked through a bridle, made her last appearance in New York last Friday, when she was placed under the hammer with her dam Fondling and her half-brother in the Fasig-Tipton Companys paddocks opposite the Sheepshead Bay track. This well-known winner was purchased by E. A. Tipton of the Fasig-Tipton Company, and she will be sent to John Maddens Hamburg Place farm in Kentucky, where she will be bred to Mirthful, sire of the crack two-year-old Mexican and other good ones. Imp was the first to be sold and when she was led into the ring she was greeted with loud applause from the crowd. In her racing days Imp always Hooked poor, but Friday she was only a shadow of herself. In addition to her poor looks Imps off hind leg was swollen to an enormous size, due to having been fired and blistered, and according to auctioneer Easton, the pain of this caused her to look so poorly. When the bidding opened Peter Wimmer, S. S. Browns trainer, who handled .Imp in her last racing days, responded with an offer of ,500, and there was a halt of some time before T. Hitchcock, Jr., raised it to ,000. John Madden then made it ,100, which was at once raised to ,500 by Hitchcock. Tipton then appeared with an offer of ,600, and Hitchcock jumped the price to ,000. Tipton then increased it to ,100, and this was the final bid. Tipton stated afterward that the purchase was made for himself, although many believe he was acting for John Madden. Imp is now believed to be in foal to Top Gallant. Imps half-brother, by Top Gallant Fondling, was then sold, and he went to S. S. Brown for ,200. Fondling was then sold and went to S. S. Brown for ,700. The others sold were yearlings, the property of various owners, and they went for good prices. The full list of sales follows : Estate of D. B.
