THE MORRIS SAIiE. The sale of the entire racing stable and stud of A. H. and D. H. Morris attracted a large crowd of horsemen to the Fasig-Tipton Companys paddocks at Sheepshead Bay Wednesday noon. While there were some disappointments as to the prices realized, the sale on the whole came up to expectations, the thirty-seven head put under the hammer bringing a total of 10,750. Among those who attended the sale were Sidney Paget, John E. Madden, Mil ton Young, Lucien O. Appleby, F. R. Hitchcock, T. Hitchcock, Jr., Charles Read, James Galway, Col. James E. Pepper, E. R. Cowdin, Overton Che-nault, J. H. Carr, H. B. Durham, Orlando A. Jones, John Morris, Green B. Morris, R. ".V. Walden, S. S. Brown, Peter Wimmer, J. H. McOormick, Frank L. Clarke, A. J. Joyner, Charles Littlefield, William Lakeland, Enoch Wishard. Col. Jack Chinn, W. M. Karrick and H. McC. Potter. Mrs. Lillian Barnes Allien, owner of Rancocas and the stallion David Garrick, was also present. She was accompanied by Dr. Carter, formerly manager of the Lorillard, stock farm. But Mrs. Allien made no purchases, although Dr. Carter bid several times in her behalf. The top price paid was 17,100 for the famous brood mare Reckon, which was sold to S. S. Brown, the Pittsburg millionaire turfman, The bidding started at ,000 and was rapidly raised a thousand a crack by Charles McMeekin, owner of the Oak-wood stud, Lucien Appleby, Jack Joyner and Capt. Brown. Appleby and Brown fought it out to the end and when tho great mare was knocked down to tho latter he was warmly congratulated. Correction, famous as the dam of Yankee, and a full sister to Domino, which won thirty-nine races on the turf and 7,350 in stakes, -was also run up quickly, Madden stopping at 2,100. Appleby finally got the mare for 5,000. The throe-year-old colt, Compute, which broke down last spring in the Belmont Stakes at Morris Park and for which the Messrs. Morris refused 0,000 at the time, went to R. W. Walden, who trained the colt, for 0,E00. Walden was very well satisfied with his purchase, for he has always prized this animal highly and would have gone much higher in the bidding if he had been compelled to do so. Madden, Joyner and Walden were the leading bidders for the stallion Bowling Brook until McMeekin took a hand and got him for ,100. J.J. McCafferty bought the celebrated Filigrane for ,3C0, but was acting for somebody else whose identity he ref ased to disclose. Capt. Brown outbid Madden for the mare La Misero and took her away for ,000. J. H. McCormick, representing L. V. Bell, secured the three-year-old filly Hanover Queen for ,C00. Walden went as high as ,300 for the mare Pres-tidigitatrice and she was knocked down to him. He also bought the mares Metempsychosis and Summer Sea for ,400 and ,600, respectively. For Queen Elizabeth, a two-year-old filly; who is a full sister to Old England, Walden paid ,500. In addition to buying Correction, Appleby, who, it was said, represented an English owner, reported to be Lord Cionmoll, purchased the mare Vacation for ,400. Madden bid ,500 and got the noted imported stallion Galore. He also bought the mare. Discretion for ,700, a yearling filly by Filigrane LIntriguante for ,000, the three-year-old filly The Hoyden for ,100, and a yearling colt by Mars-Correction, a half brother to Yankee, last years Futurity winner, for C0. Captain Brown got the stallion, The Friar, for ,500, while Milton Young, the well-known breeder, took the mares, Lizzie Baker for ,000, Rosethorn for ,E00, Sulphide for ,300, Ambulance for ,100, Holiday for 0C0 and Active for 00. The three-year-old colt Dolce Far Niente was purchased for ,100 by Walden, for his six-year-old granddaughtor, Thelma Walden Littlefield, the daughter of Fred Littlefield. The little girl already has a broodmare and a yearling and is the youngest owner in America. While the two-year-old filly Tristesse was in the ring; she made such a vicious kick at the ropes that Col. Jack Chinn foil over backward. The colonel did not put his hand to his hip pocket.
