ZIEGLEKS YOUNGSTERS. A letter from Lexington to the Cincinnati Commercial Tribune, under date of November 8, says: "H. M. Ziegler, Cincinnatis prominent theatrical manager, whose string of horses, ipcluding the almost invinciblo Hermis, has made such a brilliant record on the turf this year, will the coming season havo in training the largest string of two-year-olds that has overworn tho colors of any Ohio turfman. Tho late Charles Fleischmann never had during his racing career as many youngsters as Mr. Ziegler now has in the care of Dan OBrien here. In addition to these youngsters, he will also havo eleveri to twelve older horses, which will make his string decidedly formidable in racing even for horses of any age. Flushed with the success of the past season, Mr Ziegler spared no expense to get together a star string of horses for 1933. His thirty colts coming two-year-olds cost him an aggregate of 4,700. For one he paid ,C00, and several of the others cost him half as much. This thirty head of youngsters were takon up by Dan OBrien at the Kentucky Association track during the latter part of July. Fully a dozen of the number wero just recovering from a slight attack of distemper, and, though the entire bunch are now in thepink of condition, and since in OBriens care at the race track have never known an hours sickness, they are not quite so far advanced in preparation as is required for speedy yearling trials, or as some of their more favored Btable mates. "To date, the ,C00 brother of Lady Schorr, tho bay colt Don John, by Esher War Mantle, has shown the fastest quarter, going the distance in 231 seconds, while Prastina, a chestnut filly, by Henry of Navarro St. Priscilla, by Rayon dOr, and the gray colt, by Faraday Safety, by Buchanan, have both gone quarters in 2Si seconds, and the chestnut colt by Cayuga Mendacity, by Tom Ochiltree, and the chestnut colt by Flying Dutchman Troika, by Rossifer, have both worked in 23i. No less than five of Zioglors other yearlings havo shown quarters in 24 seconds, they being the black colt by Buck Massio Rosalie, by Cyprus; bay filly, by Knight of the Thistle Squander, by Spendthrift; chestnut colt brother of Florita, by Loyalist Lythe, by Enquirer ; bay colt half brother of Kriss Kringle, by Deceiver Bruno, by Ircquois, and the chestnut filly by Wadsworth Red Dress, by King Alfonso. Tho remaining twenty head belonging to the ex-owner of Hermis are all a little backward, and, as noted above, slow coming around. A full list follows, being the first complete list of the coming two-year-olds of this great stable given out for publication. "Names for the entire collection have been claimed with The Jockey Club, but, as thero maybe changes made Mr. Zieglor is still withholding tho names. The names of Don John and Prestina for the St. Priscilla filly, as they were claimed by the respective brooders, James B. Clay and A. Belmont, stand: "Bay colt, by Portland Charm. "Bay cot, by Handsel Miss Caveland. "Chestnut colt, by Requital The Heroine. "Chestnut colt, by Lord Esterling Glenwalt. "Chestnut colt, by Flambeau Patience. "Bay colt, by Esher Franconia. "Chestnut filly half sister of Serona, by Eaher Tho Jewess. "Chestnut filly, by Sir Dixon Marina. "Chestnut filly, by Faverdale-Ethelinda II. "Bay filly imported, by Burnaby Empress Frederick. "Chestnut filly imported j- by Oriflamme Barva. " All tho Ziegler youngsters will likely remain in the care of trainer Dan OBrien until the close of the Latonia race meeting when, in conjunction with his racing stable now at tho Kenton County track, Mr. Zieglor will ship to Churchill Downs, at Louisville, whoro Charley Hughes has decided he will winter. "Just what program the Cincinnati theatrical manager has in view for his stable of horses next spring he has not chosen to make public, but it has leaked out through his trainer, Mr. Hughes, that it is his intention to take tho pick of the collection east about April 1. " Those that fail to make good, so far as successful eastern prospects are concerned, will be raced in the Ziegler colors on the western tracks. A majority of all tho great stable, so far as the two-year-old division is concerned, are very heavily engaged in the classic events for the age. Thero is scarcely a trio in the lot that are not Futurity candidates, and in other big eastern events already closed, which are to be decided in 1903."
