Monastic II. outclassed his field, displayed superior speed all the way and was under restraint all of the last furlong. Sararose finished fast and outgamed Salto in a sharp stretch drive. The latter ran the best race he has yet shown, took the short route and saved ground at every turn. Stumpy tired. Honest John looked big when going to the post. Carmelita is a morning glory. At post 5 minutes. Start good. Won easily; second the same. Barrack began slowly and got caught in a jam at the first turn and Helgesen had to pull up. He then went all around his field, closed a big gap, caught Little Elkin tiring and was going away at the end. Little Elkin had no mishaps, is in good form and ran his race. War Cry showed the most speed, but tired in the stretch. Cogswell was outrun all the way. Loves Labor was short and was eased up when beaten. Banish showed early speed. Elsie L. was well ridden, laid in behind Golden Rule until at the furlong post, then moved up and the pair fought it out through the final furlong. Golden Rule weakened at the end and Elsie L. got up in the last stride. Golden Rule did his best and probably needed this race to fit him. Pericles saved ground at the turn into the homestretch after going all around his field to get up and finished fast. Stratton and Sambo showed early speed. Overweights Red Hook, 2$ pounds. Won easily; second driving Witfull was easily the best, got caught in a jam at the start and was crowded out, but squeezed through an opening at the turn into the backstretch, set all her own pace and was never in trouble. Banter came with a rush at the end and outgamed Judge Himes and Claude. Judge Himes ran in improved form, but tired. Claude ran as if he did not like the track. Sidney C. Excentral was seemingly lame when going to the post, broke from the extreme outside and outran Dr. Loder to the turn out of the backstretch and was under a hard drive all of the last quarter to stall off Phelan and Don oHigh. Phelan got off poorly, but made up ground fast and finished gamely. Don oHigh had to go all around the leaders to get up, came with a rush at the end and was wearing the leaders 6 jwn and would hava won in a few more strides. Dr. Loder had a rough trip. Arnold K. showed early speed. Forehand got off poorly and made up ground steadily. Overweights Excentral, 1 pound; Bessie B., 1; Sweetie, 1. Excentral, show, 4 to 5. Phelan, show, 1 to 2. John Coulter closed a big gap, came fast through the last furlong, outgamed Little Jack Horner when it came to a drive and won going away. The latter was off well in motion and showed much speed, but tired when challenged. Nearest caught Ailyar tiring and beat him out in the last stride. Optional was practically left at the post. Daly pulled him up at the start and he was on the extreme outside for the entire trip. Scratched 380643Automaton, 107; 38047 Annie Thompson, 97; 38026 Ecome, 107.
