GOSSIP OF THE TURF. Frank Bryan, who was one of the stewards that ruled off W. H. Fizer and his horses at the New Orleans meeting, denies that Fizer was told that he might expect clemency by April 8, as reported from Memphis. "The ruling in the Fizer case was uncondi-tional,says Mr. Bryan. "At the time the ruling was made Mr. Fizer produced affidavits showing that four of the horses in the stable were purchased with money furnished by Mrs. Fizer. He asked that these horses be reinstated, so that they might be raced or disposed of satisfactorily. This has probably given rise to the rumor of his reinstatement." It is said the syndicate that offered 0,000 for the three-year-old Africander, has increased the offer to 5,000, but Charley Dwyer still refuses to part with the colt. He is certainly the favorite among Gravesend trainers, all of whom declare that they have never seen a three-year-old with better prospects. The work of the colt is impressive, so far as he has not been asked to do any phenomenal trials, as possibly he may not start before he fills his engagement in the Belmont at Morris Park.
