Yardarm outbroke his field and led unextended throughout winning with ridiculous ease. He ran as if he far outclassed the field and is a sure starter in the American Derby as announced by JT. E. Madden today. Flying Jib was crowded back at the start and brought up the rear for"half the journey, then moved up like a flash on the stretch turn, finished going fast and favors a longer distance. Sun Gold, which has done wonders in private trials, exhibited inferior early speed, but came along at the end in good style. He looked far from being keyed up and can probably do much better. Chicle went well. Semper Vivum followed the winners pace closely and was under restraint for five furlongs, but quit badly at the end. Start straggling. Won driving; second the same. Miss Buttermilk ran in much improved form, forced the pace throughout and held on gamely in a long stretch drive. Kickshaw raced head and head with the winner throughout and a weak and bungling finish beat him. Scoffer, away in the rear division, steadily improved his place and came with a good burst of speed in the last furlong. Rough Rider worked through a rough journey and was running faster than the leaders at the end. Knight of the Garter was messed about and is out of place In sprints. Tioga went a fast six furlongs. Pittacus was swerving all over the track in the last quarter. Nevermore, away poorly and next to the rail, was practically pocketed for the entire journey. Dr. Riddle got off poorly. Winner— Ch. c, by Wawekus— Nell Swift trained by H. C. Riddle. Went to post at 3:30. At post 2 minutes. Start bad. Won driving; second easily. Waswift followed the pacemakers closely to the stretch, where he forged into the lead and won out after a long and terrific drive. Lux Casta challenged Waswift when straightened for home, but could never quite get up, the weight tiring her slightly in the final strides. Wild Thyme is in great form, but was not quite keyed up for such an effort, made the running for about six furlongs after which she succumbed to the more seasoned horses. Bon Mot was caught in the barrier and made up a lot of ground. Highlander, away badly and repeatedly interfered with, ran awkwardly, swerving into the rails, and compelling Burns to use the whip freely on the side of his head. Knight of Harlem was outclassed, but sustained a superior flight of speed for six furlongs. Scratched— 38998Yardarm, 106; 38978Royal, 119; 38027 Huntressa, 102; 38044 Sir Faust, 90. Dovecote ran as if she outclassed the field. Placed on the extreme outside throughout she finished with a rare burst of speed and was going away fast at the end. Hopeful Miss forced the pace from the start and appeared like winning when she struck the level stretch, but succumbed to the winner after a game effort. Vagary still runs green, moved into a contending position at the end of three furlongs and then fell away unexpectedly, but should =oon give a good account of herself. Amelia Richardson ran prominently to the level stretch. Golden Drop, a fine looker, was gaining fast at the end. Emergency was crossed and messed about at different stages. Jim Kellys jockey sat perfectlv still and the colt showed superior speed and won all the way. Luxembourg held on prominently throughout and Wonderly outfinished ONeil on Olaf for second place. The latter raced into second position when the field struck the last level stretch and ran like a superior colt. Latheron was a close contender all the way, but swerved in the last fifty yards. Inflexible, a grand looking colt, big awkward and green, will probably find todays opposition easy game from now on. He is a reported crackajack and sure to make good. Fortunehunter and Gold Breaker have not yet exposed their real form. Scratched— 38784 Ballycastle, 108. Jim Kelly, show, evens. Luxembourg, show, out. Olaf, show, 2 to 1. He indulged Gay Boy with a slight t lead to the level stretch, where he was sent along next to the rail, narrowly escaping defeat t and getting out of close quarters only in the last few strides and was going away like a shot. . Gay Boy practically forced all the pace in the race and at the weights ran a fast and game i race. Stroller outstayed Saccharometer in a long driving finish between these two. Invincible ■ loomed up strongly when a sixteenth out and then gave way unexpectedly. Scratched— 35740 Judith Campbell, 120; 389742St. Jude, 116; 389743General Prig, 105. Reliable, show, 1 to 4.
