Lustig was next to the rail at the start as Bonnie Bob bolted and cut across in front of the outside horses and had all the luck, but ran a good race at that. Rhyme and Reason closed up ground very fast on the turn and seemed to have the race won at the stretch entry, but Dale took him in next to the rail, got him cut off and gave him a weak finish. Dewey is in good form, showed high speed throughout, was much the best and won cantering and off by himself. Sambo was interfered with and was thrown off his stride while rounding the first turn, but ran past the tired horses in the stretch and was easily second best. Dr.-Kier, a promising colt, ran in decidedly improved form. Avoid was given an easy ride. Bank Street hardly ran his race. Chamblee showed scant speed. Miss Mae Day was virtually left, made up much ground and tired from the effort. Overweights — Avoid, 3 pounds. Albert F. Dewey, show, 2 to 5. Sambo, show, 7 to 10. Dr. Kier, show, 3 to 1. Hannah Lady ran an excellent race and was, under high pressure from the start. She received a skillful ride and just lasted long enough to stall off Pettijohn. The latter got away badly and was cut off when entering the stretch, but finished fast and gamely. J* Sidney Walker seems to lack his last years speed, but clung gamely to his horses, however, and ran a good race. Ranchman ran his best race. Custus failed to run to his true form.
