Uneducated in aSd racing he only raced into a. contending position when on the level stretch in the last furlong and only got to work in dead earnest in the last fifty yards finishing with rarl burst of speed. He is the best tried colt in the Whitney barn. Race King dlfplayed a phenomenal f,?„ew XSde,r SU„ch*,Tlsht,, and after navlnand decisively disposed tfpfflfffa lucky third and tiring all over at the end. Bullmans vigorous riding enabled PrSut Stone to beat the badly treated Strephon. The latter was elirly prominent next f to the Trail and finally got clear in the last sixteenth after an exceedingly rough Journey and was ™ ning faster than anything except the winner. Stevedore won all the way with ridiculous ease and far outclassed his field. Mary Worth is still on the big side, but maintained her superior speed unexpectedly well and always held second position safely. Lord Advocate came at the end with a lot of reserve speed and put up a game fight. McWilliams was never dangerous and his race was distinctly poor. Winner — B. g, by Prince Royal — Tartarine trained by E. L. Graves. Went to post at 4:55. At post 1 minute. Start straggling. Won easily; second driving. Oom Paul stripped in great form, jumped into the lead at the start, making the running at a comparatively slow pace for the first half, where he slowed up, indulging Articulate to the stretch where he suddenly moved up and had the race won before either of the riders of the others realized it. Zoroaster trailed for about a mile and Martin was caught napping when the winner stole his long lead a furlong out. Articulate got away badly and Larson was outmaneuvred throughout. With the other two easing up on the backstretch, he quickly found himself in the lead. Leisurely bent on keeping it he allowed Articulate to loaf and met defeat without his mount ever being extended. The race was a poor one from a time standpoint. Scratched— 387853Circus, 114; 39053aCarbuncle, 111; 38978 Surmise, 110.
